My laptop runs under debian (sid), so lots of hints are directly aimed at that distribution. if you are running Gentoo you might to look at the pages of revdmeer

Working

• X-Windows: you need imperatively XFree 4.3 (take it from experimental for the moment) and use vesa driver (See XF86Config). If someone knows how to get rid of the caps key tell me and Option "XkbOptions" "ctrl:swapcaps" doesn't work, it really swaps the totally useless capslock with the control key....

  The installation (follow the instructions of the files in /usr/share/doc/nvidia-kernel-source/ and /usr/share/doc/nvidia-glx/) of the officila nvidia driver yielded a half result now, running X through startx yields no result, leave the startup of it to e.g. gdm, logging in as root yields an immediate crash, you loose access to the terminal consoles, the vga-terminal is completely corrupted after calling the nvidia X Server, but otherwise the X sessions work nicely as user.

• Network (Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139 (autodetected by Debian unstable)
• USB: Use 'uhci'.
• Sound, alsa runs with the intel8x0 type driver. Run dpkg-reconfigure alsa-base and set it to use the i810 type modules.

Untested

• Wifi from Charles Plessy: the actual 2.4.22 kernel isn't provided with wlan debian kernel module packages, so you need to recompile your kernel, but beware: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=204245 and you need the hostap driver for the prism chipset, and there: https://wireless.org.au/archives/melbwireless/2003/Jan/11003.html
• Parallel-port.
• The (joy?)pad below the mouse pad.

Not working

• Beware of the fancy buttons above keyboard: using them crahses my laptop hard immediately!
